91KM

On the 28th of November 2013 I had a nice 91km running goal set for me. It was never in my mind un-do-able or ridiculous, just something stupid/funny I took seriously. After a year of on and off running (more off than on really) I recently completed the distance in chunks I would consider generally substantial.

Just to recap (Click for Large Sized Image):

fb-91km

Originally planned as a series of 15km, 20km, 25km and finally a 30km run, the whole thing took on a life on it’s own. I ended up hitting a wall at 21km distances when running on my own so I had to take some drastic measures to increase that. I did manage a 25km on one unrecorded attempt (phone battery went flat) but went no further on my own.

Anyway, 612.3km of recorded runs later (and a WHOLE lot of unrecorded runs) here are some statistics:

Some Stats

14.79km

So I attempted some distances and did it mostly alone but many of these runs were with other people that still appear clearly in my memory.

16km

I think this particular one was with the smallest Chern. What a run, she’s quite the champ

20.12

This was a run where I didn’t feel like stopping after reaching my usual 5km halfway point. Ended up going to 7.5km, then to 10km as the halfway point making a total of 20km.

21km

This was the 2XU 21k with Alan and YC. A very enjoyable one.

After completing one 25km somewhere in the middle of the year, I finished one mega long recent run to achieve the 91km target.

I kinda feel I have closure now. What a year of running. I discovered quite a bit about myself and what it takes to get going and what happens when I stop. I’ll probably keep running, but now to work my weight down!

Completed – Hairpin Leg Side Table

The hairpin legs I ordered from modernlegs.com finally arrived at my place yesterday afternoon! They don’t ship outside the USA and I had to get someone to cart it home all the way back from the states.

Proceeded to test-fit and assemble them and have pretty mixed feelings about the tables actually. They look a bit top heavy but definitely work as a side table placed beside a couch or armchair. Placed beside existing furniture, I think I like it.

Positioning the legs.. no mater how I place it it's not far enough away from the center of gravity to be adequately stable :(

Cleaned the Coffee Grinder

Took apart the coffee grinder today to clean it. Been grinding very oily beans from Vietnam and it really clogs up the grinder, the powder is stuck all over the insides! Took a while to give it a good cleaning. Thinking of modding it so I can easily clean it next time and strip it down to its core components.

Separated at Last

This is what happened this evening:

Finally, the two apart again..

Finally, the two apart again..

You don’t know how happy I am to see these 2 separated. Its been about 5 months of my 5D Mk2 and it’s battery grip being stuck together after a gear in the battery grip got stripped and wouldn’t allow me to detach the two.

Went down to the cousin’s place just to borrow a Dremel but ended up doing the whole operation there. Simple enough, just drill out a hole enough to look in and use a hammer to manually turn the gears.

Replaced it with a 3rd party replacement that uses a brass gear instead of plastic. Good stuff! Here’s a picture of the old dial stripped into oblivion and the nice shiny new brass one beside it. Notice the hole in the dial I had to bust to remove the grip.

Stuff I Did

Thought to start a category just to remind myself that I actually did stuff and wasn’t wasting my time. Perhaps I’ll look back and say “wow I was crazy to have done all this!”. Its certainly better than saying “wow where did all my time go?” Or “wow I wish I did more”.

So to kick it off I took the afternoon to apply a layer of tung oil to my logs and then fix the car bumper. Its been hanging loose below the car and scraping on the road humps for a while now. I think it came loose when I was parking head first and scraped it off. A bit of pushing and pulling and it was done. Pretty easy!
